With the use of remote control software, such as VNC or even Windows XP Professional's remote desktop, you can connect to your property from anywhere in the world, check the soil moisture/weather conditions and then alter scheduled irrigation events if required.

This system gives you more control, greater accuracy allows you to use water more wisely and in most cases saves significant amounts of water demands far less of your time, but increases your yields and the quality of your produce.
